I tried completing the NIP wizard but it kept stating "The date you gave for having received the NIP is not a valid date, or is earlier than the date the NIP was issued"
The dates entered were: date of offence 09/01/18 and date of NIP: 27/01/18 (this is the date I received it).

However, I already responded to the NIP before remembering this site, and have now received a letter asking me to accept the conditional offer of fixed penalty or request a court hearing.

I'm guessing this means it's now too late to contest this?
The letter states that i exceeded a variable speed of 50mph on the M1 and I have no idea whether that is correct or not as I simply can't remember back to the date of the alleged incident. Would I ask for proof?
I don't know whether I should contest it or just accept the points and pay the fine.

You cannot 'contest' a NIP (172 request?) or a COFP.

If you wish to challenge the allegation then it means a trip to court, without any obvious defence this is likely to be a poor strategy. Not remembering speeding is no defence.

It would have been an option to ask for a photograph to 'help identify the driver' before responding to the NIP/172 request but that's passed now.

I'm guessing the Wizard is objecting to the date format - possibly the leading zeroes. (Try without)

Given those dates though I suspect you are not the registered keeper of the vehicle? I'm not sure what you were looking to contest on the NIP itself - the 'error' given doesn't help. (I'm guessing again but the '14 day rule' is the most asked question - but only if you are the registered keeper)

Asking for 'proof' now is almost certainly fruitless. Normally we'd suggest asking for a photo prior to naming the driver as they often providing the money shot.

If you wanted to challenge now then you would have to opt for court and this could be a costly experience - unless you have anything specific about the event it is more likely you did exceed the limit. Of course there are elements to challenge such as the signs and speed measurement but you'd probably be best advised to accept the fixed penalty unless you actually have something - not remembering isn't a great start.

No, it's not that fussy. What the OP has almost certainly done is put 27/01/18 in as the date of the NIP, and left the date for having received the NIP blank.

No, i filled in both dates and tried with and without the zeroes but it made no difference
