I often listen to Jeremy Vine on Radio 2 & I suppose I would have to say that he must be a fairly intelligent guy, but whenever he is talking on subjects that to me are just common sense he often comes out with the most uninformed, stupid comments.
Recently, whilst talking about a house in a poor state, it transpired that he did not know what cladding on a house was & after a bit he admitted thinking it meant the mortar between the bricks. Later, talking to a mechanic, he was emphatic, that modern cars were impossible to fix as under the bonnet "it's just a sea of plastic", the mechanic explained that there are many things, brake pads, oli & filter changes etc that the home mechanic can & does still do (as I do) & other than the computer side of things, a lot can still be done, he was having none of it, "surely, a car has to go to a garage for everything", was all he kept repeating. Then yesterday, a classic, talking about cyclist versus car safety (re recent Bradly wiggins case) he said "If a cyclist is hit by say a black cab, the cab will always win as they weigh what? 10 or 12 tonnes", maybe he believes those big red things that carry 50 passengers are black cabs Then today, a 2 year old is injured in a freak event of a Harris Hawk landing on his head. It was obvious to me that the bird accidently landed on the poor lad, this was also confirmed by hawking experts, but no, he was having none of it, the hawk "attacked" the lad, so something else for the poor public to worry about This post has been edited by Transit man: Sat, 10 Nov 2012 - 00:30 -------------------- Now driving a Mercedes Sprinter, the Transit died of too much work.

Kyle ?
-------------------- Which facts in any situation or problem are “essential” and what makes them “essential”? If the “essential” facts are said to depend on the principles involved, then the whole business, all too obviously, goes right around in a circle. In the light of one principle or set of principles, one bunch of facts will be the “essential” ones; in the light of another principle or set of principles, a different bunch of facts will be “essential.” In order to settle on the right facts you first have to pick your principles, although the whole point of finding the facts was to indicate which principles apply.

For anyone over 40, don't forget Thorpe. Oh yes, I remember him well, from a time where being a homosexual was not as advantageous as it now appears to be -------------------- Now driving a Mercedes Sprinter, the Transit died of too much work.

Just been listening to Jeremy Vine and he was discussing Female insurance policies going up from today and he said young female drivers were better that young male drivers because they did not wear there baseball caps back to front.
He was also discussing burglars breaking into houses and he commented that a lot of things could be replaced like pots and pans but not anything of sentimental value like jewellery. I have never heard of a burglar breaking in anywhere and stealing any pots and pans. What a complete tosser. |

Peter Allen on Drive (radio 5) a normally intelligent reporter, last night was discussing with a guy who had a mate who had buried a shipping container in his field & stocked it with 3 years of supplies for 15 people in preparation of the world ending today, Peter asked him "did he get planning permission?", now I would think that a guy who believes the world is about to end the next day, is hardly about to worry about a local council official arriving on his doorstep.

Was today the best yet for Jeremy Vine? He really did IMO show the utmost ignorance on something that everybody should know as just a matter of fact, but oh no, not Jeremy.
The subject was a total non story about a cockerel eating a diamond ear ring, the cockerels owner was interviewed by him & answered his ridiculous question without a hint of humour. Not verbatim, but the gist was "what sex is your cockerel"? I despair. -------------------- Now driving a Mercedes Sprinter, the Transit died of too much work.

His show is far better when someone 'sits in' for him while he moonlights on Eggheads.
Even Vanessa Feltz is better than him. |

Even Vanessa Feltz is better than him. I used to think Jeremy Vine the most patronising idiot on the radio. Then I heard Vanessa Feltz! She is one of the few I actually have to turn off. 5 live for me. -------------------- Speed does not kill. It's more to do with how you stop.

It must be the name Jeremy. We have; Vine- a radio 2 presenter who I'll take your word as being a little dim Clarkson- funny, entertaining to a point, but very outragous and becoming predictably scripted Kyle- total moron. That is all Hunt- a tory politician. Again, says it all. Thank God my name ain't Jeremy!!!! +Beadle (RIP) |

Feed them lots of spinach (high in Iron) and it may work I guess?
A magnet fisher in our local canal (the Grand Union) fetched out a haul of about WW2 era guns including a revolver and a Thompson, by the condition they had been in there a fair while, perhaps even from 1946. https://www.coventrytelegraph.net/news/cove...arwick-14927726 This post has been edited by The Rookie: Tue, 4 Sep 2018 - 04:57 -------------------- There is no such thing as a law abiding motorist, just those who have been scammed and those yet to be scammed!

Feed them lots of spinach (high in Iron) and it may work I guess? It's not. Also spinach contains iron absorption-inhibiting substances, including high levels of oxalate which can bind to the iron to form ferrous oxalate and render much of the iron in spinach unusable by the body. |

Spinach does contain oxalic acid which is destroyed when cooked. However raw spinach can still be good for you.
A balanced diet is what is required. From the internet: Raw Spinach Benefits: There is no need to shun raw spinach simply because it contains oxalic acid. It is also rich in many essential nutrients, some of which are more available to our bodies when we consume them raw. These nutrients include folate, vitamin C, niacin, riboflavin, and potassium. Cooked Spinach Benefits: When you eat spinach that has been heated, you will absorb higher levels of vitamins A and E, protein, fibre, zinc, thiamin, calcium, and iron. Important carotenoids, such as beta-carotene, lutein, and zeaxanthin, also become more absorbable. Iron 411: Both raw and cooked spinach are excellent sources of iron, containing twice as much as other leafy greens. A 100-gram serving of raw spinach contains 2.71 mg of iron, whereas cooked spinach contains 3.57 mg. Keep in mind that iron absorption is influenced by how much iron you already have in your body and by other nutrients that you eat with your meals. For instance, vitamin C facilitates iron absorption, while other substances like tannins and polyphenols inhibit iron absorption—so the amount of iron we absorb will vary regardless of whether or not spinach is cooked. As with other vegetables, there are pros and cons to both raw and cooked forms. Eating a wide variety of plant foods is important for good health, and eating plant foods in both raw and cooked form will provide you with the richest array of nutrients. Remember to look for fresh spinach that is bright green and appears freshly picked; spinach that is older and paler in colour has been shown to contain lower concentrations of nutrients. |
