Hey all
I was on the motorway to Brighton on the 3/10 cant remember the motorway lol sorry...but i was doing at least 76mph! and then i saw the double flash in my interior mirror..and of course of seeing this i panicked. It has been 2 wks tomorrow since i have not heard anything. Im getting a mix signal from different people on how long the DVLA notify's you of the fine. Some people are saying its 14 days and others are saying 6 months which i find is a bit harse to wait that long to see if you have been done! Would this 14 days also include week ends and wouldnt i have heard something sooner if i did get flashed? Is there any other way of finding out rather then wait the 14 days? Many thanks |

On the motorway to Brighton suggests that you were on the M23, however there are no fixed speed cameras on it (and only fixed cameras flash). I even checked the A23 all the way to Brighton and again there are no fixed cameras. So you either somewhere else or the flash was nothing to do with a speed camera.
If indeed you were caught somewhere, they have calendar 14 days to serve a NIP on the registered keeper of the vehicle. So if that is you, they have until 18th to do that. However if the vehicle is registered to someone else, any subsequent NIP could take weeks or months before it shows up. |

Pretty much, but check the V5C document and make sure they have the correct address.

What's that got to do with making sure the address on the V5C is right?

yeah it defo will be i only just passed my practical in August lol That would be the address on your licence, I was refering to the V5C document for the car. At this stage they would have no clue who was driving the vehicle, and so they would use the address of the registered keeper as the starting poing for any NIP. |

Already been covered in one of BB's previous posts: If indeed you were caught somewhere, they have calendar 14 days to serve a NIP on the registered keeper of the vehicle. The only thing I might add is that the day of the alleged offence is counted as Day 0. |

There is little to be gained from asking one member's experience as there are many factors that can influence the length of time it takes to be processed. As has already been explained, if you were not stopped at the time then the police have 14 days to serve a written Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP) on you (as the registered keeper - RK). Regardless of how the matter is finally dealt with whether that be by way of Speed Awareness Course, Conditional Offer of Fixed Penalty or a summons an NIP is the first step. If you have been the RK for some while then for a prosecution to succeed the NIP should have been served on you by last Friday (17th October). Everything else being equal, RK for some time, not a company car, lease or hired, then, if you haven't had the NIP by now, you have little more to worry about.
Btw - which "motorway" has fixed Gatso's? Were there roadworks? Or did you mean the A27? -------------------- “Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a tu.rd by the clean end.” - R.J.
