Hey everyone,

So I had to move out of my last property late 2017 very quickly due to a relationship breakdown. I moved into my own place, updated my insurance and driving licence but seemingly (and stupidly) failed to update my V5C.

Driving home through Essex on the M25 on the approach to the Dartford Crossing on Friday afternoon I have a horrible suspicion I was caught over the speed limit and the 10%+2 and flashed by a gantry camera as I'm sure I saw something, but this could simply have been the sun reflecting on the bonnet of the car in the next lane - I simply don't know which is causing some stress! One gantry said 50 and the very next said 40 with little time to slow down 10mph quickly. I think I just about got down to 46-47 as any sharper braking I would likely have been rear ended. It's my own stupid fault, I should have been more careful and braked as much as I needed to to get down to the limit. My main issue is I have no access to my old address whatsoever and no way of telling if I have been sent an NIP as my ex partner will likely just bin it (my mail redirect finished about 6 months ago). I sent of my V5 yesterday morning recorded delivery as soon as I realised so the DVLA will have that tomorrow but understand that they take a while to update and any fine is likely to have gone out before that's updated.

Would you advise on contacting Essex Police tomorrow and seeing if there has been anything logged against my VRM as I'm quite anxious about it and I don't want to risk the further consequences of missing a fine?

Thanks

You could go online and update the V5C now, any update will be on the PNC Tuesday.

You could leave it two weeks and then call the Police if you know who operates that camera?

I did research online to see if I could update online but it seems only posting the log book off will result in it being updated. The driving licence you can do online but I have done that and did that as soon as I moved in.

So if I was to call them tomorrow it would be too early to know anyway? I'm presuming as it is the Essex section of the M25 that it is Essex Police rather than Essex county council. I obviously don't want to be admitting I was over the limit should it fall within the 10%+2 still but I can't afford to leave it and risk the fine and points increasing and summons to court etc. As mentioned in the original post there is no way i can access the previous address and no way I'll be contacting my ex partner.

You can just call them and ask if there's anything outstanding against your VRM, it's just an enquiry so it's not an admission of anything as such (and even if it were, unless you're talking armed robbery or above they're never going to use a telephone enquiry as evidence in court).
