Hi all, hoping this forum can help me as I am really concerned about getting an NIP through the post this evening and internet searches just seem to bring up loop holes to get out of them rather than advice for them being just wrong.
The details on the NIP are mine. It is impossible for it to be my car as I had just parked at work about 15 mims before the offence and I had to look up the location since Id never heard of it and its about 50 miles away. Also, the police force that has issued it has the photo's from the camera online and its clearly not my make and model of car (the only thing the same is the colour and the fact they think its my number plate). So how long is it going to take and whats the best way to sort this out? My insurance is due for renewal just before xmas and I really dont want to get a massive premium hike for something thats clearly not right. Any advice/ experience is very gratefully appreciated! Thanks K |

Can usually be sorted in 3 minutes with a bemused phone call, presumably the actual car has a similar enough plate that it’s a miss read.

That simple??!
Thank you. I have a number to call from the notice but not open till monday and was reading stuff about them having 6 months to do something. Thats a huge relief. It was not a good way to start the weekend. |

Assuming it's more than just a NIP and asks you to provide information to the police within 28 days, you still have an obligation to respond. The underlying allegation may not involve you, but any such request is addressed to you.

Thank you. I have a number to call from the notice but not open till monday Make sure you get the name of the person you speak to, and note the time and date of the call, in case you need to refer back to it. If they check the photos and say, "oh yes, wrong VRN, forget about it", then try to get confirmation in writing. This is all so that if things drop through the cracks, and they get their admin wrong (not unknown), you have a paper trail to explain why, for example, you didn't respond to the S.172. |
