I was under the impression that the 20mph speed cameras installed around London had not received Home Office approval or the necessary VCA certification, but maybe I'm wrong.

Can anyone please enlighten me about who I would need to send an FoI request to in order to obtain the type approval certificate. A little help with the wording of such an FoI request would also be useful.

Thanks

Some cameras are approved for use at 20mph, others are not. What type of camera?

The Home Office grant type approval not the VCA.

Indeed - probably thinking of Gatso Type 24 that is only approved for 30mph+

Buried sensor types are approved at 20mph+

All of the speed cameras in use in the London area have approval for use at 20mph.

Whether you get the Approval certificates or not isn't going to assist you in any way.

I seem to recall there was an issue a few years ago with the 20mph cameras on Lower Thames St. Not sure how it was resolved.

Thanks very much for the advice. Having done some further research it seems I was mistaken in my thinking and to put it bluntly, it's a fair cop.

In all honesty the law doesn't seem to care if a prescribed device is approved or not. sad.gif
