As Professor Google seems to have a lot of conflicting advice, I come here, for further enligghtenment.

Question 1. Is it practical/possible to convert a Euro 4 diesel Kia Sorento 2.5 CDTi to Euro 6

Question 2. Are there any VED advantages, if the answer to Q1 is yes.

Cheers

Well, considering how Euro 6 is just Euro 5 but with less NOx, then you might have an issue without a diesel particulate filter - the omission of this was allowed under Euro 4 rules.

There are solutions out there that *can* bring Euro 4 and Euro 5 into Euro 6 compliance (and better it) however as far as I can tell, no one actually gives a **** about it.

Which is sad, as I'd happily drop a grand or two on a bit of kit that would make my diesel Euro 6 compliant.

As long as you can get the DVSA to agree that your car is now Euro VI, it allows you to drive into the London ULEZ1 for free2. Other such zones may follow.

1. Leaving aside the cases ongoing in the Council Tickets forum where it is argued that the signage is inadequate and doesn't indicate that you actually need to pay to enter it.
2. Apart from having to pay the regular congestion charge, that is.

1/ No, how would you ever get it type approved (answer is, you can't).....even if you could you'd be adding a urea system, SCR catalyst, new EGR system, new injectors, possibly a new pump, possibly a new DPF, new sensors and a New ECU with new wiring, the bill for that lost will be circa £8000 at retail. and that's assuming the engine internals haven't had to be changed.

2/ No VED is based on CO2, not HC, NOx, particluates and CO

Some petrol burners can be reclassified if they are dual fuel with LPG but AFAIK, that is it.

It's not available on the market yet, sadly. sad.gif

Hence the rest of that sentence.

No pressure from Government to aid funding research into retrofit kits for personal cars, and not much action from the private sector. Just demonstrations.

Converting older diesel vehicles does not fit in with the current political agenda of 'encouraging' people to buy new and electric.

Converting and petrol can to EU6 can be viable, a Diesel, no. Too many changes.

Lol most Euro 6 diesels are actually Euro 5 with a lot of ADBLUE added in that make it Euro 6 compliant!
It's quite funny, my Mini Cooper D is a new engine so does not require ADBLUE but I have driven a Mercedes C220 CDI and it required a boatload of Adblue and in fact if the adblue runs out you cannot even start the engine!

So many Euro 6 diesels are not naturally Euro 6 compliant either, they need secret juice to make them compliant!!

‘Adblue added in’, you mean a filler neck, tank, supply system, injector and the SCR catalyst in which it works, in addition to the extra sensors, ECU modifications and calibration.
