Have you ever seen anything like it?

Half-witted women are dancing in UK NHS hospitals, while cancer patients are dying at home because their operations are cancelled.

If your beloved family members had just died, how would you feel at the sight of these women?

Would you clap for them, or want to kill them?

No other country in the world carries on like this.

I thought PPE was in short supply in the UK. Not for this lot.

Who manages them, exactly?

Is anyone pleased at that?

Yes. They're what is known as a contingency, to provide capacity if the normal hospital capacity is exhausted. If they're not needed then that's a good thing, as it means the existing NHS hospital system has been able to cope. If they are needed then that's a good thing as it means the NHS has additional capacity to prevent it collapsing. I can't quite find the word to describe someone who would think it's a bad idea to put in place measures to prevent the collapse of the health system, but I think it might be in the title of this thread.

+1.

I'm sure Sean would be front of the queue to complain had we run out of capacity and people were being turned away from hospitals to die (as they had to do in Italy).

Compared to the overall cost of the health and financial plans the cost here is peanuts for the extra protection it creates from a swamped system.

There are around 800 coronavirus deaths per day and 3000 cases presenting daily, currently.
There are 1257 hospitals in the UK.
https://www.interweavetextiles.com/how-many-hospitals-uk/

This means that each hospital will only see a couple of deaths per week and a couple of new cases per day, on average.

The quoted 1,257 includes private hospitals, and mental, eye, dental, maternity and other specialist establishments. The number capable of accepting patients with Covid 19 is certainly a minority - my guess would be around 300-400.

There aren't enough critical care nurses to staff the Nightingales to any large capacity - they can only come from existing hospitals. About 30 patients were turned away from the London Excel because there were no staff.

There were no staff for those patients because the hospitals involved decided they could move the patients to other hospitals with spare capacity and treat them there, without needing to redeploy staff. Moving patients around the system is business as usual for the NHS.

The NHS is used to operating at or near to capacity so for example if one hospital or ICU is full patients get diverted to another hospital. This helps explain why the NHS has managed this crisis so much better than eg Italy where hospitals in Lombardy were totally overwhelmed. That would never have happened in the UK.

The Nightingale hospitals are intended as ICU overflow centres & thankfully haven't been needed. The way the NHS has ramped up & coped is cause for much pride.

Coronavirus: UK holds minute's silence for key workers who died

Look at all these lazy public servants standing around rather than helping people. I know there are some men in the pictures, but they're OK, it's the women i have a problem with. I hope they're not going to claim wages for that minute of standing around, the absolute scum.

Presumably the stick ought to be cleansed with an appropriate sanitiser between the different uses?

Some of the reports suggest it was a close run thing with London hospitals and that the London Nightingale may well have been needed.
Kudos to the NHS and to the majority of the population who did (and are doing) what was asked.... to sit on their backsides and not catch the thing.

Notwithstanding the irrelevance of your 1257 figure -----

that you struggle with basic arithmetic. rolleyes.gif

And he doesn't seem to realise that they don't turf out one hospitalised patient per one admitted.

Of the 69 shown in sean's manor in his linked map, I count just 10 relevant trusts for counting purposes, with
circa 1400 deaths in hospital.

I wonder if that changes his perspective.

This story struck me as being totally at odds with the vitriol espoused by the OP in the first and other post. Is he truly at odds with just about everyone or is he a right wind up merchant
