44Teeth - a youtube channel about motorcycles - occasionally do a regular episode answering legal questions with Andrew Dalton of White Dalton.
The latest such episode concerned the question of whether or not wearing a helmet mounted camera was a good idea (maybe they should have asked Michael Schumacher). The advice was generally that it was rare (based on cases that he and his colleagues had dealt with) for camera footage to be useful (IMHO if you've got compelling footage, you probably don't need specialist solicitors), but most of the discussion was about where footage of 'antics' would and wouldn't get you into trouble. Apparently, if you attach a camera to the outside of your motorcycle it is in a vehicle or dwelling and can be seized by the police, but if it is attached to your helmet it isn't and therefore can't be seized (not an expert on this area of law, but this sounds like utter bow-locks). If you post footage of your bike speeding more than 14 days after the event, you can't be done because they have to serve a NIP within the 14 days (IMHO arguable, but not authoritative). Also issues of proving who was driving, when the offence took place and where it took place. If the footage shows dangerous driving, it is no longer subject to the 6 month limit (correct) or the 14 day rule (say what now?), they don't have to worry about where or when it occurred, and (presumably if it shows the rider and bike) the PNC can show the police who has such a bike registered in the local area and wears a similar crash helmet. So by this logic, if you capture key evidence of a murder or terrorist incident on a helmet mounted camera, the police are powerless to take it? Yeah right...

Presumably that (if it did in the first place) would only apply while wearing the helmet/camera, once you've taken it off.......
He should have represented that speeding motorist who got banned, that video came out after the 14 days were up..... -------------------- There is no such thing as a law abiding motorist, just those who have been scammed and those yet to be scammed!

Arrest a witness? I didn't take the opening post to be about an innocent bystander: If you post footage of your bike speeding...

Oh I see. I thought the discussion had moved on to helmet cameras in general.

TBH the last place i would mount a camera is on a helmet, it will just punch straight through and brain you. I do have one, it's mounted on one of the crash bars on my bike.
I wish people would understand that attaching anything to a helmet is dangerous. |

It is useful to have helmet camera.
You can turn your head to view something from side of you. I do have camera mount on my helmet to record the footage of the riding route looking at the mountains, seas, etc and also I have mount on my windscreen. If there is an accident going to happen and the camera will break from the mount |

What ?? a camera would get ripped off before anything serious could happen, unless you were stupid enough to screw it on! however you are right NOTHING should be screwed, glued, taped or in anyway fixed to a helmet. It is useful to have helmet camera. for riding around and especially when looking up ex girlfriends ! |

I wish people would understand that attaching anything to a helmet is dangerous. That's not what actually happens in a crash because the mounts are designed to break off in impact and the only position I've seen from actual testing that is a problem is having the camera hanging in front of the fact to record the person and the camera can go straight into the face. Cheap third party mounts were recommended against because they may not break away the proper way under impact. It's surprising that many years after Schumacher's crash that the lie made up by a journalist (which was almost immediately shown to have been made up) is still being repeated especially on a forum like this where I'd have expected users to be better informed.
