HI Chaps
Yesterday while out and on way home from a job I was travelling on A11 from Newmarket in stream of traffic at around 80 - 85mph when I was aware of a car coming up behind me quicker. When the other cars in front of me had cleared I put my foot down to get out the way thinking I don't want someone at speed behind me. I know pretty stupid but I got to around 100 mph and car still behind me. Slowed down at roundabout on inside lane and the car came up on outside lane; needless to say on leaving roundabout I accelerated away and this car slowly then caught with me and after I'd passed a car at around 90 it put on blue lights from inside it's grill; I pulled over into slow lane still doing 80 and it went straight past me and then I could see it did the same to a car further ahead and sped of into distance. I've had clean licence for 25 years now and now worry it'll be gone for the speed I was travelling but here's the rub. The car was a basic silver Ford Mondeo about 61 reg with clear window glass and with 4 guys in it - I'd describe as a detectives daily run around. As it went past no one gestured at me and in fact you could see the two in the back were leaning towards the middle as if having a conversation with driver and passenger. I couldn't see any camera on dash or sign in back window and no other lights - looked simply like a reps car. Clearly it wasn't an unmarked roads policing car as really too old and not powerful enough; I easily left it in my Nissan X Trail so could it be they were in a hurry and just wanted me out of the way like the car ahead of me. Am I worrying over spilt milk?? |

I've experienced this several times on A1 south bound.
3 months ago there was 2 cars probably half a mile apart. One was a girl in her mid twenties. The other had 2 guys in the vehicle, no uniform. Wednesday just passed, there was a white BMW pretty much on the same stretch of the A1. However, this one did not give the impression of an advanced driver, as up ahead from me, it appeared at times that it was preparing to undertake, which I thought was a bit dodgy. -------------------- STAND UP FOR YOURSELF OR YOU WILL FALL FOR ANYTHING

Many driver jam their brakes on on the M25 and other roads where they think the speed cameras are. they are just signs, AFAIK there's no cameras on the overhead gantries on the section of M25 I use. speed cameras now used are the yellow ones situated on a pole on the grass verges.
As for doing 75 on lane 2, why not use lane 1 if it is empty? That way others are less tempted to under-take. Increase road capacity, reduce the need to build more 4 lane roads. |

The newer ones are HADECS cameras which are on a cantilever at the left hand side of the gantry, fairly easily spotted. There are still a bunch of the older GATSOs, which are over each lane in the gantry itself, so much harder to spot. |
