Hi all

I received a PCN for parking on a single yellow line in Southwark (zone C2). I have a resident parking permit and I parked right near the bays which were all full in the area hence the reason, not an excuse. I thought it would be alright, not really knowing if it is allowed.

Here's the location via google street maps:

The white van you see directly on the yellow line is exactly where I parked, but a few yards forward of it.

Do I have any chance of challenging this? Considering I am a resident parking permit holder can I ask for leniency on this occasion if there is no legal aspect to dispute?

QUOTE
Single yellow lines in controlled zones
Controlled zones that have single yellow lines within them will have Controlled Zone entry plates at each of their entrances. These signs state the days and hours that yellow lines operate.

In some locations, there may be single yellow lines with time plates. Typically, these restrictions operate for longer periods than the rest of the controlled zone (for example, in bus lanes). Always check the signs to make sure it is ok to park.

I don't understand what this means, I saw no such signs and I was under the impression that the bays beside them are the times they operate and considering I have a permit I would be OK, such as if I am not restricted to park in the bay the single yellow should make it fine for me too. Of course if this is completely wrong, then expensive lesson learned.

A resident permit does not exempt you from the restrictions of yellow lines, single or double, so the PCN would seem to have been issued correctly. You could try submitting informal reps asking for their indulgence as you are a permit holder, but London councils are notoriously venal so they probably won't accept it. The plain fact is that in London there are more cars wanting to park than there is space for them to do so. Maybe when we have self-driving cars, you'll be able to set your auto-car off on a circular tour all night and not park it !

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Controlled_Parking_Zone sorry to say this but it's going to be an expensive lesson, as you're banged-to-rights on the contravention and unfortunately not knowing the restrictions is no excuse.

Oh that wasn't me trying to make excuses, that was me explaining that I don't know what that quite means and asking how would I know to ensure it's being properly applied, or someone easily figures it out.

I wasn't saying you were trying to make up an excuse, I'm just saying that you have no grounds of appeal as ignorance of the law is no defence.
