Hi there all
I got fined back in October 2018 for a bus lane infringement (unknown to us) going into Florence, Italy. I fought the fine with the fact they were outside of their time limit for notification. I havent hear anything since then until Saturday I got a letter reminding me of the fine and that they are passing this on to a collection agency. So help please if you can. Where do I stand? Do I have any rights? Will they pass the debt on to a collection company? Thanks in advance This post has been edited by krazykopites: Mon, 16 May 2022 - 11:46 |

Florence Italy?
Or Florence road Coventry or Florence Park Derby? What time limit would apply in your case? Debt collection makes it sound like a civil matter, not criminal. And what makes you think there is such a limit in Italian law, and presumably this was a hire car?
Unless you are a frequent visitor to the area then there is nothing they can do to you and you can just ignore (but file) the demands. -------------------- There is no such thing as a law abiding motorist, just those who have been scammed and those yet to be scammed!

Yes it was a hire car - I got a charge for them supplying my information I read on a forum (Tripadvisor or Rick Steves) that there was a timesacale they had to abide with OK I will file it. I was trying to get re-assurance they couldnt pursue any further |

Not least if the hire co gave them an incorrect address (as seems likely really) and they have only just traced you. -------------------- There is no such thing as a law abiding motorist, just those who have been scammed and those yet to be scammed!

And what makes you think there is such a limit in Italian law, and presumably this was a hire car? There is such a limitation period in Italian law, it's 365 days. So help please if you can. Where do I stand? Do I have any rights? Will they pass the debt on to a collection company? Post the notice you have received. Challenging this should be really easy as it's way out of time. You could just ignore it, but if it's a sure thing on appeal, you might as well appeal it. -------------------- If you would like assistance with a penalty charge notice, please post a thread on https://www.ftla.uk/index.php

Italian motoring penalty process Florence and other Italian cities make €00000s from foreign motorists If/when it's time expired (after 360 days) the authority can pass it to a collection agency who will attempt to collect the penalty but have no way of enforcing any payment in the UK. They are restricted to 2 years from the date they receive the details from the authority. |
