Hi,
One for you clever people out there. We sent a present to our daughter via Amazon. She is currently renting short term in Chester. Mistake made, we put Number 3 when it's actually 33. Too late to cancel as Amazon had done a great job of delivering next day and it's gone through the letterbox. Daughter goes along to 3 but it looks "deserted" as she puts it. She has put a note through the door explaining the situation and giving contact details. Right we know it's not Amazon's fault, it was our mistake (Note to self - read the text rather than try to remember it's contents). What's the situation viz a vis whoever occupies/owns the house? It's not theirs I know but any practical suggestions? |

If no one is there you could try neighbours to see if they know who it is. One may even have keys - we do for our neighbours and they for us.

£3.50 (ish) gets you an online download of the Land Registry. You could then write to them.

Daughter's tried that, no one seems to know who, if anyone is there. Looks like that's a loss then. Can only keep going back.

Yet almost every time I’ve done any residential conveyancing the service address has been (unsurprisingly) the property address (since that is normally where the owner will be living). -------------------- Moderator

Maybe TMC is confusing tennant and landlord |

Well success! Googled address to see if anything came up and hey presto it linked to Zoopla and the place is vacant and for sale. Spoke to the agent who was doing a viewing today and he retrieved the parcel. Daughter will pick it up from them. Result!

Seems a lot more straightforward than exploring your legal options -------------------- If you would like assistance with a penalty charge notice, please post a thread on https://www.ftla.uk/index.php

Legal options generally involve serving things on the party in question and them responding to them or at least being traceable. When the issue is that you are unable to contact the party you need to contact, the legal position is at best pretty much irrelevant.

Not really, there are circumstances where a party can be deemed to have been served even if there is evidence to show, as a matter of fact, that they were not so served. -------------------- If you would like assistance with a penalty charge notice, please post a thread on https://www.ftla.uk/index.php

Perhaps "generally" was a strong word (as was "perhaps"), but in the context of I had my delivery delivered to someone else's house by mistake and can't contact them, the legal position is pretty much that you need to contact them.

On that we can definitely agree. -------------------- If you would like assistance with a penalty charge notice, please post a thread on https://www.ftla.uk/index.php
