Hi All
Been out for a run in the car with my boy today, literally a mile from home saw a police car parked up in an entrance to an industrial unit, parked side on to my approach, almost as if they were waiting to pull out. Didn't consider my speed as I did not think I was (thought it was a 40 zone as it is a short dual carriageway) going over the limit. As I got within about 20m of the car, I could see the policeman in the drivers seat had a camera on his lap with the lens pointing out of the open window. The only reason I noticed was of the reflection from the lens, which I would describe as being quite wide like the sort found on an SLR camera, they may have been other lenses etc. but did not notice as my attention was then quickly on my speed, which was 38. I had a quick look on google maps after the event and there were no speed limit signs so, I've got to assume it's 30. So my question is, is the positioning of these camera acceptable for it to be in use, assuming it was a speed camera, or do they need to be aimed to work correctly? Not trying to get out of it, more trying to predict if I will receive a ticket in the post! Kind Regards This post has been edited by 2020Blue: Sun, 31 May 2020 - 19:15 |

I would expect a NIP - they have 2 weeks to deliver to the registered keeper.
-------------------- RK=Registered Keeper, OP=Original Poster (You!), CoFP=Conditional Offer of Fixed Penalty, NtK=Notice to Keeper, NtD=Notice to Driver
PoFA=Protection of Freedoms Act, SAC=Safety Awareness Course, NIP=Notice of Intended Prosecution, ADR=Alternative Dispute Resolution PPC=Private Parking Company, LBCCC=Letter Before County Court Claim, PII=Personally Identifiable Information, SAR=Subject Access Request Private Parking - remember, they just want your money and will say almost anything to get it. |

It needs to be aimed at your car to get a reading, but he may have been aiming it using a screen on his lap, if you are the registered keeper you should find out within 14 days.
It is a dangerously false assumption that a dual carriageway is a 40mph limit. -------------------- |

Yeah, I know, TBH, I just didn't think as It did not feel like I was going fast, more wondering if I should slow down and let the nice policemen out! Hopefully, I will be able to do a speed awareness course as I've not had a ticket since 2005. |

Courses are offered up to 42 in a 30 limit, and although stopped during lockdown, are starting again on an online system. The only other requirement is that you have not done a course for a similar offence occurring within the last three years.

Never done one.
I guess I'll know much before 14 days as the poor old government must be strapped for cash after all that money they have spent on Coronavirus, it must help the police stats too, crime detected, crime solved, without doing anything but parking up in a layby. If only they showed this level of gusto with burglaries. |

I saw one on the M4 today, certainly seems to be an increase in speed traps, at least from what I notice.
