Usually the left & right turn is proscribed perpetually wherever these have been allocated. So I am wondering that any deviation to it in extreme circumstances such as during marathon road closures is allowable when doing so become inevitable. For making it more comprehensible, for instance you reached a point where turning right & left both are prohibited but due to marathon road closures you either have to turn left or right. So under this scenario will you still be served with penalty despite for searching alternative route you will inescapably have to turn left or right.

The answer as always is, it depends, but it would be possible in principle to challenge a PCN under such circumstances.

My expectation is that the relevant authorities would have a suitable diversion in place before such a turn became necessary or forced on a driver.
They also have the option of covering the signs and diverting traffic via the restriction.
And ignoring cameras for the day.
Whether they will is another question but options are available that don't include allowing traffic into a blocked route with no lawful escape and no pre-warning

Thanks for replies. Yes there were handful of inconspicuous pre-warnings and the blurry maps which were not sufficiently granular to avoid such deviation. Also, there was an awash of clueless agency security officers, ostensibly without any induction/training. They were blindingly providing some directions which jaw droppingly led you to other blocked roads manned with their other colleagues. Not sure whether these contrived arrangements were to bamboozle some credulous drivers into committing these mistakes for making money.

Don't count on it!

There was a bike race organised a number of years ago which crossed my commute - unfortunately it was so badly advertised that the first I knew about it was the first day of my working week!

The local council had placed a "Road Closed" sign at the bottom of a one-way street... which I found out when I attempted to get round the route!

I sat there for a bit before deciding to do like the others and turn round and carefully make my way back to said roundabout, and take a 15 mile detour... rolleyes.gif

I never count on councils doing it right.
I may have expectations but lost the belief in their ability years ago.
