I have driven to Belgium today. Over 200miles of motorway driving and then a mile away from hotel and as got closer to town the speed drops. I didnt see speed signs but my sky active sat nav said 90km/hr and that a speed camera is coming up. I stayed below 90km and passed the camera. Suddenly my sat nav changed to 70km/hr literally at the point you pass the camera and then warned me that I was going to fast. I reckon around 80 to 85km/hr. I accept that I may well now receive a fine in the post but my question is do I have to declare to insurance when I renew that I have had a speeding fine in the EU (I have read on a few websites that their isnt a code on quote systems for EU fines) and will I get points? End of the day my fault just wondering what happens next? Thanks

No possibility of getting points for an offence not committed in the UK (or some of our island oddities).

You may well hear nothing of it. I've been flashed a few times in Belgium and heard nothing. France is different, there's a couple of posts on here about them chasing people more than 6 months after the offence.

Yes true but I know that since 2017 they have EU countries have been able to get details of uk drivers if caught by speed camera. So before then u could be flashed and no hear anything.

Now all they can do is write you letters unless they stop you back in the country again.

Now all they can do is write you letters unless they stop you back in the country again.

To be fair they could do that before, as the SoS can give RK details to anyone who shows good cause. In fact, if all EU member states were as liberal at giving out details as DVLA is, the EU regulation wouldn't have been needed at all.

The EU directive now just means the DVLA must give the details to EU enforcement agencies, while previously it did so as a matter of discretion, but in practice nothing's really changed.
