Please vote to help demonstrate that the proposed law is an affront to civil liberties and established law. P.S. This is not my petition - someone beat me to it - but I'm not proud. -------------------- “Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a tu.rd by the clean end.” - R.J. Wiedemann, Lt. Col. USMC Ret.

Would be nice a) to see the numbers update after approving the signature b) not to have to give name, email and postal address! |

Tried signing it, but when I click the confirmation link in the email I get page not found
-------------------- To bow down is a sign of dignity and, funnily enough in the eyes of the law a, quite legal request to have the CPS park one up ya back drive.

Not the best drafted statement of reason in the world
Given the low response rate would someone more knowledgeable like another go at drafting the remit? Its not my area but I can see from what is there the OP of the petition does not get the issues? Regards MMM |

There is a new and slightly better worded e-Petition calling for the removal of Clause 56 in the Protection of Freedoms bill currently before Parliament.
http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/6342 For those that don't know clause 56 can be summerised thus: "It allows creditors to pursue the registered keeper of a vehicle for unpaid parking charges, whether or not the keeper was the driver at the time the charge was incurred. This allows a creditor to hold a non-contracting party responsible for a breach of contract in which they played no part. This would undermine a long held legal principle. Clause 56 also requires parking operators to meet certain conditions before they can pursue the keeper of the vehicle for any unpaid charges. But it places no burden of proof on the parking operator to demonstrate that these conditions have been met, nor does it provide a system of dispute resolution for vehicle keepers pursued for payment where these conditions are not met" The opposition to the clause is not because people wish to condone breach of contract in private/civil parking matters but because this clause changes the basic nature of civil contract law and as such can not and must not be allowed to pass without opposition. The British Parking Association are lobbying hard for this clause as it gives them a licence to print money. It seems few people are lobbying against it. EDIT: 12/08/11 21:34 - Sorry, for some reason when wrapping the URL in bold the link broke. My bad. Now fixed. This post has been edited by 'tang: Fri, 12 Aug 2011 - 20:34 |

I have a petition calling for the law to be changed so that DVLA no longer has the presumed consent to sell details of the registered keeper to anyone.
To do so would require a signed and dated form with the relevant box giving said consent ticked. Please feel free to sign the petition. I have a Hubpage all about PPC's and will be adding links to the other 2 petitions onto it. We need to really get in peoples faces with some kind of very public campaign to promote the relevant petitions and encourage motorists everywhere to sign them. |

There is a website that explains Clause 56 and Schedule 4 and how it affects all of us:
http://www.stopclause56.org.uk It also has links to the e-petition and quick links to share this via Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, digg and StumbleUpon. Please spread the word. 'tang. |

Following on from the previous posts, the e-petition 6342 was mentioned by Honest John (The motoring advice columnist) in The Daily Telegraph on Saturday.
Since then we have jumped from 160ish signatories to over 1,400 in just over a day and a half. Please keep circulating the details: http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/6342 http://www.stopclause56.org.uk/ Thanks. 'tang. |

They could do with being amalgamated into one (I don't know how you'd do it as it doesn't seem possible to contact either author......I've tried) and then emailed to your entire address book and posting on Face Book pages etc etc, it needs to hit the 100,000 mark otherwise it's a lame duck.

We have over 46,000 members yet this e petition has only 379 signatures.
New posters should be signposted here as a matter of course and requested to email the link to their entire email address lists. |

We may have more than 46,000 members but no doubt they join, get the info they need and drift off. Site says 'Most users ever online was 327 on Thu, 7 Apr 2011'. And, of course, the forum for private parking tickets and clamping is smaller than the other help forums.
Maybe the mods could do an e-mail mailshot to all members asking that they sign the petition? |
