Hi there,
I have just received two PCNs on the same day (in different envelopes) relating to offences on 11th May and 12th May. There are videos from a roadside camera of my vehicle driving on a road where only buses are allowed (apart from access for other vehicles). I did not know that cars were not allowed there as I often see cars use that stretch of road, however, having checked Google Street View there are indeed signs that I unwittingly drove past (see attached image - I was caught on video after this point having driven straight on). Are there any means available to challenge these tickets? At £130 each (£65 if paid within 14 days) it seems incredibly excessive for an honest mistake. I also wonder if it's reasonable (and worth even bothering?!) challenging just the second ticket as I have not had time since being made aware of the first contravention to realise that I was in error. I would have not driven there again after seeing the first fine. Upload the PCNs, the council photos / videos and a link to the location on Google Street view. I've asked a MOD to move this to the correct part of the forum.

What was your purpose of travelling through that gate? Was it to access somewhere or as a shortcut?
Do they have a video of your exit too to show you were not accessing a property? Not sure whose responsibility it is to show the "access" exemption. |

I thought it was an unrestricted road so I used it to get to where I needed to get to (as part of a journey that started well before and ended well after). It was an honest mistake that I made two days running. There is a video showing me driving along the road and not accessing anywhere. As I understand it I'm 'bang to rights' and as the error is mine then I should rightfully pay the fine(s). I'm thinking though that the second fine a day after is quite harsh given that I had no opportunity to realise the error of my ways. Would a person reasonably expect fifty identical fines if it took fifty days for the first contravention letter to land on their doorstep and they had been unknowingly making the same error on a daily basis, if that makes sense?
