Hello All, I have a query which is not directly related to a parking ticket / offence but relates parking. Please, if this does not belong to this forums do let me know.
I live on main road in London and we have parking space in front on our house (on kerb). This is public parking means anyone can park anywhere and there are no permits etc. I own a car and sometimes have to park far from my home (which is ok) but usually get scratched or someone breaks the mirrors. As usual, my dear neighbours bring there massive vans and park in front of my home (which is again ok) but on other hand they put bins and cons in front of there house to block others parking there. If you remove the bin they will be there in an instant and will scold you (they have cctv and they usually stuck to it). I asked council to intervene as they unneccessary block spaces for mutiple cars and dont even park there but council suggested they need to check with highway rules. I have attached a picture and would like your feedback if this is even possible to park on yellow highlighted mark. My neighnour suggests that he can put a cone there as there are no parking lines and only he can use it when he wants. BTW he thinks as he is disabled (large large in front of his house) so no one is allowed to park in yellow lines except him or his visitors. I would appreciate your help and feedback. Regards |

Little you can do but remove the obstacle and park there, but that may escalate in a manner you don’t want.
The council can move the blockage but there is little they can do to stop them putting it back. -------------------- There is no such thing as a law abiding motorist, just those who have been scammed and those yet to be scammed!

My only concern is that by doing this if I am not doing anything illegal. My neighbor usually bring his camera and threatens that he would send these picture to PEO to enforce PCN as this is illegal. But for some reasons perfectly fine for this cars . Regards |

No it can't be reserved albeit that parking arrangement where you park on the pavement rather than carriageway doesn't help with that impression.
If it is local convention do you not have a space in front of your house to use? On my road it is convention everyone parks outside their house, and visitors/extra cars park further up - although noone reserves spaces. It works fairly well. |

It works fairly well. yes I can park on the pavement infront of my house, but the same gentle man brings his Van and blocks it for me (its convenient for him to see his van from his window but block other from parking). The other neighbors are very good and usually they follow the same convention. i.e. not to park infront of you. |

If the yellow line is in front of your house apply for a dropped kerb. That way no one can park there without your permission. Cost a few quid but likely worth it

If he is parking in front of his and your house I would say all bets are off and you should tell him to s0d right off.
In fact much as I hate it maybe you should use wheelie bins or similar to block it for a few days and make the point. It might be less hassle than taking "his" space. If he comes and tells you you can't reserve spaces - game, set and match. |
