In its early days of its inception of the mobile speed cameras here in Wales, "Daily Post" a daily news paper in here would have the locations from where those "Mobile Speed Camera Vans" will be monitoring the vehicles.
Is there any such information put out on a daily basis for cautious drivers to be aware of? It seems now it has become a game to out fox drivers to earn more cash for struggling Police services? It is hard for those drive for living and also expected to maintain schedules on deliveries...Good and Law abiding drivers many of them are on occasion snared by this cat and mouse game... (I have a 9 to 5 office based job but feel for those who does deliver my purchases from Amazon and other such sites alike!!) Thanking for reading this message. There was never a requirement AIUI to publicise the locations, even under the netting off 'conspicuity' arrangements, though many forces did, also many publicise them on their website (probably more useful).
The fact that most people didn't check, or couldn't remember them all anyway probably plays a part. Whether the Police put out the information is down to the individual force, whether the newspapers print it is up to them. The easiest way is to look for some round signs with numbers on and following them, if a delivery driver could remember all possible camera locations and yet be singularly unable to obey speed limit signs unless they remembered that location they would be worthy of a scientific study! -------------------- There is no such thing as a law abiding motorist, just those who have been scammed and those yet to be scammed!

Supplement short falls from osterities I suspect? They get circa £35 for an attended course which has to be put back into road safety anyway. Otherwise they get nought. Its austerity. And no, can't be used for that unfortunately. -------------------- There is no such thing as a law abiding motorist, just those who have been scammed and those yet to be scammed!

There The easiest way is to look for some round signs with numbers on and following them, Absolute. However was it not the position one time that the warning sign for a camera has to be clear? This is the case with permanent ones but not the mobile cameras though... It is like a "cat and mouse" game. It is not that I condone the speed but there are a lot caught out when just 4 to 5 mph over the limit on s very clear and dry conditions on a very quite time of a day...when no risks for an accident. |

However was it not the position one time that the warning sign for a camera has to be clear? This is the case with permanent ones but not the mobile cameras though... Nope. The conspicuity requirements (DFT Guidelines) were part of the netting off regime operated for a few years only in the mid noughties when the camera partnerships got to keep all the money from fixed penalties (this was a way of equipping the partnerships with a lot of cameras for little expense on the public purse). If they failed to meet the conspicuity requirements they were supposed to report themselves to themselves to decide if they should keep the money ( Andy F) but it was never a defence in law. Since the partnerships were split up the conspicuity requirements are merely (irrelevant) guidelines on what you should do IF you want them to be conspicuous. Signs for mobile sites were pretty meaningless anyway as (locally at least) we ended up with signs for mobile sites which were in use about 1% of the time. Mobile and static sites are treated identically in law. Just slow down for the camera locations anyway, then speed up when you can see they aren't there. It's become habit for me to slow to55mph on 50mph dual carriageways, check the location then speed back up to 70mph.
I suspect all the Amazon drivers are more practiced at it then me. Of course you normally get warning from oncoming traffic anyway. On my way to work there is a nasty location on a 30mph sweeping bend on a stretch of country road between two villages. Cycling to work at 6am if the camera is there I always try - as best you can on a push bike- to warn oncoming drivers. Do get a few funny looks. |

IIRC only if the people being warned are provably breaking the speed limit
or has that changed. -------------------- Which facts in any situation or problem are “essential” and what makes them “essential”? If the “essential” facts are said to depend on the principles involved, then the whole business, all too obviously, goes right around in a circle. In the light of one principle or set of principles, one bunch of facts will be the “essential” ones; in the light of another principle or set of principles, a different bunch of facts will be “essential.” In order to settle on the right facts you first have to pick your principles, although the whole point of finding the facts was to indicate which principles apply.
