Hello all
Hoping for some advice. I am a member at my local David Lloyd club (Kidbrooke). I have been a member for a number of years and often park in the car park - use the gym and then work on my laptop in the member area. As a result I can often stay most of the day. On Saturday 8 June - a driver in our registered car parked there - and stayed approx 5 hours. Today I have received a PCN from UKCPM for £100 (reduced to £60 if I pay in 14 days). It has ANPR showing the driver in the car arriving and leaving and confirms the 5 hour stay. There are photos of my car both arriving at the barrier and then leaving through the barrier. Upon further investigation I find out that David Lloyd has recently introduced a 4 hour maximum stay in the car park. This was communicated via their newsletter (which I didn't read). I am told that David Lloyd are not sympathetic and just advise that UKCPM is a separate company and you have to deal with them. The first thing I knew about this - was the PCN in the post today (17/6/19). I am a full member of the club. What should I do in the first instance? I have read the FAQs and advice on what to do before posting. I just want clarity on what to do first (appeal/ignore)? Or do I actually need to pay it (it seems v unfair so hoping that isn't the case)! Thanks v much in advance for any help. JB. This post has been edited by jimbowen79: Mon, 17 Jun 2019 - 14:51 |

Go speak to the manager, other gyms are available after all (and remind him of that and the time you've been a member).
EDIT your post NOW to remove any indication as to who was driving, refer to them only as 'the driver'. You have the PCN as 'the keeper'. I am told that David Lloyd are not sympathetic and just advise that UKCPM is a separate company and you have to deal with them. Well ignore that - it's your first port of call. They have contracted the parking company so they should not simply wipe their hands. If they won't sort it then you can always offer (threaten) to cancel your membership. UKCPM will almost certainly sue. Thanks v much for replies so far. I have edited my post as per advice. I am away for work at the moment and they aren't picking up the phone - I will go into the club and speak to them this week and see what they say.

I know what they'll say (as above) - you will need to be a little more assertive and find the most senior person you can... -------------------- RK=Registered Keeper, OP=Original Poster (You!), CoFP=Conditional Offer of Fixed Penalty, NtK=Notice to Keeper, NtD=Notice to Driver

OK - so David Lloyd are having none of it. They just say that the parking company is separate and there's nothing they can do once a fine is issued. The next step would obviously be to call their bluff and actually cancel my membership over it.
The issue is that my membership is paid for by my employer (no way would I fork out £130 a month to be a member there)! Some advice PLEASE? What are my options? I really don't want to have to pay the fine when I genuinely didn't realise the parking rules had changed for this car park. There is always TONNES of space in there so it is just an obvious way to generate more income. Any help very welcome. And hugely appreciated. |

Did you call them out over the nonsense that statement from them is. It's a separate company THAT THEY CONTRACTED to manage THEIR car park. Of course they can do something about it. They just need to be bothered. Complain to the Head office about the manager at that centre, saying how obstructive, unhelpful and deliberately slopey-shouldered he is being. Is that how they want to treat members who are forking out large sums for that membership? And check out the signage, where it is and exactly what it says. |

Does not really work at this club. When I signed up for the club you were permitted to leave car in overflow car park for a few hours. New rules mean no longer possible to do; overflow carpark was and still is always 80% empty. I noticed the email about change of rules and spoke to the most senior person at club who could do nothing, then spoke to head office who said the rules will not be changed and they acknowledge that overflow car park is empty. There are new expensive flats going up in the area and the club wants new members, so I believe their thinking is they don’t want existing members using as a long stay car park as they want spaces for new members. I did resign my membership and have now been told that, if you are in the club you can let reception know and they will extend your stay period; Which kind of solves my problem. David lloyd Kidbrooke is not as good as some other premium clubs, but there is no other club in the area that is similar. The parking is not any better since new rules and they still have the issue of able bodied members parking in the disabled parking spaces. At times all disabled parking bays are taken and only one car has a blue badge; mentioned to reception and they acknowledge there is nothing they will do to stop. How did things turn out? |
