My daughter is a new driver with 13 months experience now.
She has no points and has driven daily issue free. Recently on the way to work she was involved in a collision whilst overtaking a parked car, a car coming the other way collided and broke my daughters wing mirror. She stopped but the other car drove on, so she assumed he was not interested. She rang me and I said did you get his registration ,she replied no. I told her we would just repair the wing mirror on her car and not bother with Insurance, Eight days later she has received a NIP for driving without due care and attention and driving without reasonable consideration for others. If she gets 3-4 points she will be more or less uninsureable on a new car and will have her her licence revoked with 6points. I have thought about replying to the police stating her situation and asking for a driving improvement course.I don't know whether this will hin She is now frantic as she is a new driver and has a PCP on a new car taken out 3 months ago she cannot return. der or help and highlight she is a new driver and vulnerable. You just have to report it to the police, no need to call them! For OP's future reference, I believe you have to report it to the police in person; over the phone isn't sufficient. I suppose I could ask them to reopen and re-staff the closed callers offices at all the local cop shops... Better yet call 999 and they come to YOU!* *depending on resourcing levels Unless you make a habit of having collisions it is not the most onerous part of owning a car. |

This is true, though I wonder if you missed my point. There is no location in our area now where you can speak face to face with an actual police officer without an appointment (or being arrested!). So suspect the OP's belief that 'only in person' is not (or was never) correct. Nearly every station has been closed. moved & downsized, and regardless all 'front desks' closed to public access. The closest you get is in major towns where staff employed by Serco front a 'Police enquiry desk' as part of the council building. However the OP is correct, the law requires it in person although should the price request you report by other means you would then having the makings of a defence if they progressed it to court.

The closest you get is in major towns where staff employed by Serco front a 'Police enquiry desk' as part of the council building. So travel to your nearest major town and report the collision there. Presumably if you have had a collision you are very likely to have access to a car to make the journey. If it seems like a lot of effort remember - at least it's plod rather than the compost heap of ineptitude that is the DVLA. |

Forms filled in and sketches provided for police.Wait and see again now.there is definitely a,third party witness who believes it was my daughters fault.Hopefully not court and loss of licence.

I would sceptical about this third party witness who has now come forward. Your daughter stopped at the time and the other driver did not, so there was no opportunity for this witness to speak to the other driver at the time. Did your daughter see anyone stop, did anyone approach her? Is this witness just a mate of the other driver who has offered to help out? Of course it could be that the other driver has a dashcam and spotted the number plate of a potential witness and managed to contact him, but it looks a bit unlikely. -------------------- |

Phoned the police today to see if anything was happening after our reply.
The lady says a letter has been sent out saying NFA (No further action). Absolutely delighted. |

Seems sensible, its not like it was a serious collision (even if it was her fault), and a witness suddenly being produced of such questionable 'providence' was an interesting turn up.
