I have just renewed my Admiral multi-car insurance (for the 6th straight year) and have had 2 pleasant surprises
  • The renewal was £30 cheaper than last year and £90 less than any other comparable cover I can get
  • I was asked in any driver had any convictions, fixed penalties or pending prosecutions, but there was NO mention of awareness courses

The former is a nice bonus, but I was surprised about the latter (not that it affects me at all, I drive like a nun wink.gif ). I am not sure whether this was an accidental omission by the agent (I am tempted to ask for the recording of the call because I forgot to record it myself), or whether Admiral Group have stopped asking this question. I am 100% certain that the question was not asked i.e. I was not daydreaming.

I have just been through insurance renewals for Youngest and Common Daughter in Law.
Question wasn't asked for either of them.
Both with Admiral, both young drivers, both got best deal with Admiral.
Was asked about actual and pending prosecutions and if had been stopped by police but not awareness courses.

I understand that their policy docs no longer mention courses.

The wording on my renewal policy is as follows:

QUOTE
Motoring Offences : Have you or any driver been involved in any motoring offences in the last 5 years, including fixed
penalties, convictions, disqualifications or have any pending prosecution other than those listed?

So I suppose it could be argued by Admiral that anybody who has attended an awareness course has been involved in a motoring offence, but chosen the option of disposing of the matter by taking the course that was offered. I would argue that attending a course is disposing of an allegation of a motoring offence rather than being involved with an actual motoring offence

I would go with your argument

Fixed penalties are covered by legislation and acceptance is an admission of guilt

We all know the course offers include the suggestion that, if you dispute the allegation, you have the court option
With the exception of the fool in today's thread that spent £30000 and three years contesting a 35 mph allegation, most of us wouldn't bother

I have been with LV for a couple of years. They don't ask about speed awareness course but neither do they ask about convictions or points as they just ask for access to your driving licence record.

Yes I noticed that too when pricing up admiral, they do not ask for speed awareness courses on their online form, don't know if they ask on the phone when you try and get a bigger discount then what they quote you = )

I thought Youngest and Common was an insurance company for a minute!

I was actually with Admiral a few years back.

I took out my polciy through Comparethemarket that showed Admiral to be the cheapest. Of course answering all the questions honestly, so no to any FPNs or convictions. I wasn't aware at the time but Admiral's website asked for the Speed Awareness where as Comparethemarket never did and I had attended a course.

I found out about the question three months later and me being the paranoid self I am, rang up and cancelled the policy as I thought I lied and went elsewhere and paying a lot more.

Glad to see they don't ask that question on their website anymore making it more inline with the comparison sites.

I wouldn’t trust comparison sites.
I nearly took out insurance from one recently to find that despite it saying it covered me when I contacted the insurance company they said it didn’t.
I contacted the insurance company as the document I had to review from the meerkat was abridged so unclear.
The insurance company said it is always better to contact them or a proper broker before going ahead regardless of what site is used.

It's what I do anyway, can sometimes get a better deal anyway.

We've seen enough threads where the OP discovered the hard way that the policy didn't include driving to work

Never taken out insurance through Meerkats.
But have had the 2-1 cinema (and now meals) deal from them for the last 4-5 years.
Run the comparisons, choose who you are going to phone and negotiate/confirm with.
Claim the offer putting in the policy details as requested, job done.
Don't forget same on Gocompare now, they are offering £250 cover on any excess that may be paid in the event of an accident.
Going through claiming that for my Youngest at the moment.

l'd question the wisdom of using admiral group where teenagers are involved, though obviously not all teenagers are the same. Personally I'd pay a few quid more, not to be forced
to sell my house should they get drunk/drugged up and injure someone.

I would assume that all of us commit a motoring offence every day we drive, so on that basis all of us should answer "yes" to the question. But it then asks if you've been convicted etc, so that alters the answer to the first question to NO.

As far as I know they're not, they're simply an opportunity to dispose of the matter without criminal proceedings. I'm not aware of anything that says payment of an FPN is an acceptance of guilt.
