Our local council have erected 'average speed camera' signs. There are no such cameras and in a reply to an email they confirmed this. Do I recall reading somewhere that road signs erected should not mislead motorists?

Do you also recall reading something about not posting random trivial questions not relating to an active case in an active case forum?

The forum about speeding seemed the best place. I considered the Flame pit but it is for 'topics that dont belong anywhere else'

............... I considered the Flame pit but it is for 'topics that dont belong anywhere else' Seems about right. What is misleading about stating there are average speed cameras? Might make people slow down to below the speed limit. And stop those that don't moaning when they find a camera van parked. |

Nope, I’ve looked again and considered
Technical Discussion of Enforcement Devices Government Policy but these forums don’t seen correct either. I’m happy to be told the correct place – but maybe without the sarcasm please? |

I’m happy to be told the correct place It's here, where it belongs. It can't go in the Speeding forum since your query does not relate to a case of speeding or other criminal offence: Speeding and other Criminal Offences The place to ask for help in cases involving speeding or other criminal motoring offences, Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) and DVLA cases This post has been edited by peterguk: Sun, 11 Mar 2018 - 15:29 -------------------- |

Thank you Peter.
I believed that I had placed it in the Speeding and other Criminal Offences. I can now see where I went wrong. |

Why don't you make a formal complaint to the council and see what they say? -------------------- If you would like assistance with a penalty charge notice, please post a thread on https://www.ftla.uk/index.php

There are loads of examples on Britain's roads of signs warning of speed cameras where none exist. On the A34 between Basingstoke & Reading they have been there for at least 20-30 years.

It's just speed camera signs and it's the A33 not the A34.
Example There are no fixed cameras here but mobile units are known to operate on this stretch. This post has been edited by BaggieBoy: Wed, 4 Apr 2018 - 15:37 |

let's start a campaign to "remove all speed camera signs" It's almost as if there's a system in place to tell drivers what the prevailing limit is already. I'm not sure what value speed camera signs add...? -------------------- RK=Registered Keeper, OP=Original Poster (You!), CoFP=Conditional Offer of Fixed Penalty, NtK=Notice to Keeper, NtD=Notice to Driver
PoFA=Protection of Freedoms Act, SAC=Safety Awareness Course, NIP=Notice of Intended Prosecution, ADR=Alternative Dispute Resolution PPC=Private Parking Company, LBCCC=Letter Before County Court Claim, PII=Personally Identifiable Information, SAR=Subject Access Request Private Parking - remember, they just want your money and will say almost anything to get it. |

I'm not sure what value speed camera signs add...? Well some woudl say they inform drivers "where to slow down and observe the speed limit" The alternative is "They tell drivers where they do not need to slow down and observe the speed limit and hence tell drivers where they can speed" I can't see any other use or purpose. |

I suspect it's a residual echo of the notion of "policing by consent" - you may have heard of it. -------------------- Regards,
