Hi I’ve driven from Norwich to Barnsley and the setretch of the M1 that has variable cameras is worrying me.
My car doesn’t have a limitor and I am sure I was going with the flow of the traffic most of the time but still in the back of my mind concerned about speed as don’t know the sensitivity of them and where cameras are etc. I have 9 points so would I be offered speed awareness does anyone know? (This is something I panic about daily) Many thanks in advance D34 |

The amount of current points has no influence on being offered a course.
The date of any previous relevant course and the level of excess (up to +10%+9mph of the limit) are the considered factors. -------------------- RK=Registered Keeper, OP=Original Poster (You!), CoFP=Conditional Offer of Fixed Penalty, NtK=Notice to Keeper, NtD=Notice to Driver
PoFA=Protection of Freedoms Act, SAC=Safety Awareness Course, NIP=Notice of Intended Prosecution, ADR=Alternative Dispute Resolution PPC=Private Parking Company, LBCCC=Letter Before County Court Claim, PII=Personally Identifiable Information, SAR=Subject Access Request Private Parking - remember, they just want your money and will say almost anything to get it. |

Your qualification for a course depends on the speed and whether you've already done a course in the previous three years
The points already on your licence doesn't affect the decision If you already have nine points, you should be driving like a nun even if you're not keeping up with the traffic flow |

Thanks for the replies - yes I am a total Nunn and driving extremely cautiously - still get paranoid though!

You are probably worrying about nothing, in most camera sections on motorways traffic flow is generally about if not lower then the speed limit and usually lower then the trigger point (10% + 2mph) for enforcement.... no guarantees on that but as long as you were not overtaking in lane 3, should be okay.
Far better to keep an eye on speedo though, if you have a speed limiter, use that and stay in lane 1 until some points drop off. |

Most drivers are able to maintain a constant speed without a limiter or even needing to check their Speedo frequently. Perhaps if you are struggling to do that and on nine points you should invest in advanced driving lessons. I can absolutely guarantee they are worth every penny.

I thought advanced lessons were free, it's just the test that's charged? It's illegal for non-qualified persons to give paid instruction. |

Quite possibly so. I did blue light training for the NHS so mine was free anyway. I would say more exciting but obviously in a knackered ambulance.

Thanks I was ‘staying in lane’ as the signs advised of congestion and limit and to stay in lane so was also worried about shifting about 🙈 I think I am just being paranoid. Was a company car driver for 10 years with speed limiters and now I’ve got my own vehicle (10 month old Audi A1) with no limiter it makes me more conscious... |
