Basically I was caught speeding in Dec 2018. My car is still registered at my parents and I haven’t been back in a while.
So I am 3/4 months late, I’ve tried to pay (£100 and 3pts) but for obvious reasons it didn’t let me.
I’ve never been in this position before and had no idea what to expect other than likely court appaearance.
I will be calling up Tuesday for advice but was hoping someone might know what outcomes there are.

What stage are you at? Did you name yourself as the driver? What prompted you to try to pay £100? Tell us what you have received (with dates) and what, if any, responses you have made?

I’m not at any stage, I’ve only just opened the letter when I got back from my parents

What does the letter say? Please don't make this like pulling teeth. You need to let us know what has happened so far.

Sorry I didn’t mean my reply to sound like that.
I have a notice of intended prosecution final reminder. The date of offence is 16.12.18 and the issue date is 15.01.19.
This is the only letter I have from what I picked from my parents.
I have made no response.
I decided to pay because I don’t have evidence to suggest otherwise and in sheer panic. I am unable to make a payment as I think my case has escalated but as of yet I have no letter.

Well you can’t pay anything in response to a NIP unless it also contains a conditional offer of a fixed penalty (few areas use the so called super NIP) , usually you have to reply to the NIP and then get the offer.

Which isn't going to happen now, six months after the offence

You'd better make better arrangements about collecting your mail because it's a near certainty that there's a prosecution on the way for S172: failure to identify the driver

There are usually two offences listed - failure to identify and the original offence

You don't really have an defence unless your parents have been ripping your mail but still plead Not Guilty to both

Even so, most prosecutors will do a deal on the morning of the hearing to drop the S172 in return for a Guilty plea to the speeding

Are we in June? ninja.gif

There may just be time to accept a 'late' nomination and CoFP - but it may well already be queued for court. Get the nomination form filled in sharpish and send it ASAP - contact them on Tuesday to explain and you might be able to save the situation.

Going to court isn't the end of the world, just a bit of a pain and you will have to attend.

It isn't 6 months yet - just over 4. Act sharpish and there's a good chance you'll still be able to deal with this by way of fixed penalty.

Don't panic, just call the camera office and do exactly what they tell you to do, in the order they tell you to. Although you have technically committed an offence of failing to name the driver within 28 days, it is likely they will let it slide and offer you the £100/3pts penalty. But you don't want to steal defeat from the jaws of victory by, say, forgetting to send in your driving licence.

In future work out a better system for your post - some things like penalty charges from councils have a less generous time frame.
