I have a quetion Does anyone know the speed limit on Stanningley Bypass
I have received a speeding NIP from West Yorkshire police
firstly there were three seperate offences in the same envelope all the same speed at the same location but two days apart
Now call me a bit thick for doing it 3 times but I'm sure this road is 60mph
Any suggestions I'm looking at 9 point in less than a week!!!!

Well it was when the Streetview camera van went past, and took this picture. The cameras are under that bridge in the distance. It could have changed, though. What limit are they saying? You were not in an HGV, I take it?

Hi logician thanks very much for that

all three NIP's state 47 in a 40 mph limit I drive a ford KA no HGV license but purely for the reason that it doesnt have enough go in it to get me into trouble ,or so I thought
in 15 years of driving I have never had so much as a peep with the local traffic plod.I just cant believe its possible to get near banned in under a week for driving what I thought was well under the 60

Im a bit puzzled now the signs I was sure they said 60 on there so if you have any suggestions on what to do in my case it would be greatly appreciated.
I understand if I take it on the chin and just fill out the NIP I most likely would get????? but this is three seperate NIP's so am I going to get worse I would like to know if it would be better to have it dealt with by the court but i have no mitigating circumstance and maybe was just a bit dim and missed where a 60 mph bypass changed to a 40 mph bypass?

The PGPSW database also thinks it's a 60.

It is worth driving down the route and checking what signage is in place.

Also note that you are likely to be offered a speed awareness course for one of the offences, that costs more than the FPN, but saves you 3 points.

Yes, I think you are going to have to arm yourself with a camera and go and have a look on the ground.

OK folks looks like digital camera time as I have just been all the way down the road google maps wise as supplied by logician and it even says 60 under the speed camera sign
All I can think is that I have bumbled along thinking its 60 and they have reduced the speed limit. The embaresment of doing it 3 times is enough to send me round the bend though
Thanks for the all the replies much appreciated

If it turns out there are 3 separate offences that can all be proved and a speed awareness course isn't an option for some reason, then it may be worth considering going to court in the hope that the CPS may be persuaded to drop at least 1 or even 2 in return for a guilty plea to the remaining 1 or 2 offences, rather than just accepting 9 points via the fixed penalty route. There is of course no guarantee that this would be agreeable to the CPS.

According to http://www.safetycameraswestyorkshire.co.u...d-locations.htm there are 4 camera locations on the A647 in Leeds... and one of them is listed as 40 mph speed limit.. the others being 60, 70 and 70 mph...

The website does look a bit out of date, but certainly points to there being changes in the speed limit on that stretch.

I suspect you may have been flashed going eastbound immediately after the 2+ person lane commences east of the A6110 turn-off. According to StreetView we see the limit change from 60 to 40 at the start of the 2+ lane and the camera and 40 limit is clearly shown Here

But I would recommend taking a drive with a camera just to make sure

And ask for photographs "to identify the driver"

See if they confirm the exact location

Looks like its a fair cop I do know where that stretch of road is and yes I have been on it and yes its my car.
As an aside girlfriend also recieved NIP through door this morning where i had borrowed her car exact same spot yes me driving

Not really a defence but I have never ever noticed the 40 sign but I have however always been too busy watching the single lane occupancy signs and the bus lane
Oh well

Mike

What are all the offence dates that you have now?

Is there any chance of further NIP's coming your way?

So that's 12 points potentially coming your way, unless of course you get a SAC for one one them.

Oh well

You're remarkably calm for someone looking down the barrel of a totting up ban...

baggie boy

calm no (definitely not feel more embaressed than anything )I just dont get stressed by the system its not worth it if you do find a way to beat it then you usually find yourself getting the kosh from somewhere else. Im pretty convinced my only defence will be stupidity (wont really be using that) or that it will cause me and my family great hardship primary earner , new baby, loss of ability to earn income etc to be perfectly honest I will save 300 quid in insurance and wont be paying tax on the car....downside is that in future it would be cheaper for me to get insurance on the space shuttle...i always look on things life throws at you on the funny side...it helps I find
.
bblaw the offences 24th 27th 28th and 29th did a weeks work in Leeds

thanks for the help folks

definitely coming way from leeds toward bradford

another bit of information I took my car for its mot the other day also 7th of july
car failed on the wheels being incorrect size and fouling the arches(front under full lock and the bumper does have wear where the wheel hits it) normally the car has 13" wheels with 165/60/13 tyres (or so im told) not 14 inch with 185 /60/ 14 these were changed about 3 months ago due to the alloy being cracked after hitting a pothole (ironic we pay so much to drive on c@@@ roads) . I actually went to the local scrapper who gave us 4 newish tyres on steel rims for 40 quid which was way better than 165 quid for an alloy and tyre...was told they were the same on a ka fiesta and escort ...obviously the guy at MOT place knows this is not the case

as an off the cuff remark at the MOT station I said it does'nt really matter if it doesn't pass I'm looking at 12 points in a less than week so its been a bad week
the garage mechanic laughed for a bit then laughed some more and seemed to indicate that it might be the wheels being too big that put the speedo out is that even possible?
I wouldnt know how to figure that out anyway.

I know the other half doesnt drive a bag of c@@@ like mine and she has alloys on her car that are big 17" jobbies and low profile her car had 14" steel wheels originally. Its not really that that bothers me about her car but no matter how you sit you cannot see the speedo for the steering wheel rim anyway I'm sure you have to be under 4 feet to see it but thats no excuse

MAYBE IM JUST GRASPING AT STRAWS in light of what the garage mech suggested

Changing tyre size will make a difference as your speedo will underead by 10%. In reality most speedos overread anyway so the difference isn't huge, but increases the faster you get: -

Indicated speed: 10 mph. Actual Speed: 10.9 mph.
Indicated speed: 15 mph. Actual Speed: 16.4 mph.
Indicated speed: 20 mph. Actual Speed: 21.8 mph.
Indicated speed: 25 mph. Actual Speed: 27.3 mph.
Indicated speed: 30 mph. Actual Speed: 32.8 mph.
Indicated speed: 35 mph. Actual Speed: 38.2 mph.
Indicated speed: 40 mph. Actual Speed: 43.7 mph.
Indicated speed: 45 mph. Actual Speed: 49.2 mph.
Indicated speed: 50 mph. Actual Speed: 54.6 mph.
Indicated speed: 55 mph. Actual Speed: 60.1 mph.
Indicated speed: 60 mph. Actual Speed: 65.6 mph.
Indicated speed: 65 mph. Actual Speed: 71.0 mph.
Indicated speed: 70 mph. Actual Speed: 76.5 mph.
Indicated speed: 75 mph. Actual Speed: 82.0 mph.
Indicated speed: 80 mph. Actual Speed: 87.4 mph.
Indicated speed: 85 mph. Actual Speed: 92.9 mph.
Indicated speed: 90 mph. Actual Speed: 98.4 mph.
Indicated speed: 95 mph. Actual Speed: 103. mph.
Indicated speed: 100 mph. Actual Speed: 109. mph.

Your wife's car probably has less effect as most 17" alloys are 40 aspect, so very little difference between a standard 65 aspect 14" wheel.
