NIP Details and Circumstances
What is the name of the Constabulary? - Date of the offence: - October 2021 Date of the NIP: - 3 days after the offence Date you received the NIP: - 9 days after the offence Location of offence (exact location as it appears on the NIP: important): - A64 York Road towards Leeds City, Between Temple View Road and Pontefract Lane, Leeds Was the NIP addressed to you? - Yes Was the NIP sent by first class post, second class or recorded delivery? - First If your are not the Registered Keeper, what is your relationship to the vehicle? - How many current points do you have? - 0 Provide a description of events (if you know what happened) telling us as much about the incident as possible - some things that may seem trivial to you may be important, so don't leave anything out. Please do not post personal details for obvious reasons - I know I drive down this route regular and know about the average speed limit - it has been there ages. But I am confused about the location. It says to go onto the www.westyorkshirepas.com website but that is down. If I was speeding I hold my hands up, but York Road is a notorious road and you cannot really speed as all cars are doing around 30. Anyone else have any idea as to where the offence may have taken place? NIP Wizard Responses These were the responses used by the Wizard to arrive at its recommendation: Have you received a NIP? - Yes Are you the Registered Keeper of the vehicle concerned (is your name and address on the V5/V5C)? - Yes Did the first NIP arrive within 14 days? - Yes Although you are the Registered Keeper, were you also the keeper of the vehicle concerned (the person normally responsible for it) at the time of the alleged offence? - Yes Were you driving? - Yes Which country did the alleged offence take place in? - England NIP Wizard Recommendation Based on these responses the Wizard suggested that this course of action should be considered:

As others have said... the markings have 4.5 metres gap between them.
Being generous and saying you travelled 4 metres in the time between the start and end photos that's 37.3mph. With sympathies because that looks a stupid road to have a 30mph limit, I think the reading is probably correct. |

I am going to do the awareness course, already paid for it and have the date. Just a bit annoyed they sent the wrong info for the calibration certificate. If i sent over the wrong licence number or did not do as they ask, I bet I would be made to pay for my mistake.
Have to say, these roadworks are horrendous and have been going on for over a year will still a year left of them. A main route into Leeds. We had enough of the roadworks when they put in the useless cycle lane that hardly anyone uses!! |

Is it hardly used because it's useless?
Good infra gets used. Bad doesn't. Demand better. |

Is it hardly used because it's useless? If it's like around here the council will build a good cycle lane between two dangerous bits of road and then wonder why no-one uses it. I had a debate with them pointing out to continue your journey after the shiny cycle lane ends, cyclists needed to get across two lanes of traffic to turn right (immediately after a busy supermarket entrance) if you wanted to avoid joining a 50mph dual carriageway. Their response was that cyclists without a death wish could get off their bike and wait to cross the four lane carriageway. Because nothing encourages you to use a cycle lane more than having to stop and dodge four lanes of traffic concentrating on joining/leaving a busy dual carriageway. Cycle lanes aren't a bad idea, cycle lanes designed by council highways departments are invariably terrible ideas. |

Yep, it's almost as if they are built by people who don't cycle...

They either don't cycle or pootle along at 8mph and think everyone else does.
There are a number of bits of cycling infrastructure in my town which make some sense if you pootle along at 8mph, but none at all if you're doing over 16mph. Though this one never made any sense! The Coventry Velodrome, for 3m sprints and has seating for 6 spectators. Is it hardly used because it's useless? Well it serves its purpose. They created a cycle lane from East Leeds to Bradford. It is used, but no where near and the cyclists pay no attention to the light to stop them crossing traffic, most cars in this area have had to break because a cyclist does not stop at the red and the side roads have a green light. This is the example: https://goo.gl/maps/1AUdbJwixJJys1qy7 If cars are coming out from the estate, you always have to slow down after the lights to make sure you do not take out a cyclist who thinks the red is not for them and only the main A60 traffic.... |

Looking at that, that's a poorly designed cycle lane.
Look at how the Dutch do it. You can comfortably travel at a design speed of 15mph (Dutch upright style bikes are designed to be reliable,,not fast) as the infra is designed so you keep momentum. Cars, rightly, come bottom of the priority as cars have an empty three seater sofa behind them taking up so much space. |

Though this one never made any sense! If you want to cycle in the bus/cycle lane and there's a horrible bus inconveniently and unexpectedly stopped at the bus stop blocking the bus lane, how do you get pat it without cycling in live traffic? Obviously you could upload dashcam footage of the bus driver blocking your lane and try to get him sacked, but that doesn't help you in the short term. -------------------- Andy
Some people think that I make them feel stupid. To be fair, they deserve most of the credit. |

Though this one never made any sense! If you want to cycle in the bus/cycle lane There was no bus lane. There was no cycle lane other than that 3m - it is situated behind the bus stop and bus shelter, so about 10 feet away from just riding along the edge of the road, with nothing connecting either end of it to that road. -------------------- There is no such thing as a law abiding motorist, just those who have been scammed and those yet to be scammed!
