Company I work for has a "long driveway & exit" from a building that we used to use to exit the building.
The driveway was blocked off with a sorned vehicle leaving 1 parking space at the end for a computer shop's customers to use to drop off & collect repairs. We now want to start using the driveway/exit but.......
Just lately someone has been taking advantage and parking their vehicle there for 24 hrs at a time.
Notices have been put on the vehicle stating that it is a private parking area and they are not to park there.
The notices are usually just thrown on the floor and ignored.
Typically the vehicle turns up before I get to work and is still there when I leave !

Any suggestions with how to deal with it ?

There is just enough room behind it to park another vehicle sideways ! wink.gif and block it in, but I imagine that wouldn't be legal !

Probably already considered this, but is it possible to gate or chain the driveway when the vehicle is not there (don't lock it in!)?

When clamping on private property was banned, the police were given powers to tow cars away in these circumstances. Whether you could persuade them to use those powers will very much be down to local practice and policy, and how up to scratch with the legislation the local inspector is, but in principle your remedy is to get the vehicle towed away by the police.

The relevant amendment to the regulations is found in The Removal and Disposal of Vehicles (Amendment) (England) Regulations 2012 http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2012/2277/made which amends The Removal and Disposal of Vehicles Regulations 1986 to extend police powers from "roads" to "other land"

If the gates/chain are usually locked at a certain time, it’s perfectly legal to lock it in.

Thanks for replies and suggestions, I had forgotten about the ability to lock it in if there is normally a security barrier that is locked at closing time - seem to remember now having that discussion on here before !
I work for a Garage so the option to drag it out onto the main road was considered but thought that could get a bit involved.
Currently no security barrier -although it seems the obvious solution.

You should probably advertise the fact via a prominently displayed notice that the property will be locked between the hours of .....

Warning signs are largely irrelevant, the legal test is whether the barrier or gate was already there. Putting up a chain after the vehicle has been parked is likely to be a criminal offence no matter how prominent a warning is displayed.

I reiterate, it's worth giving plod a call to see if they'll send a tow truck, it avoid any expense or hassle and if the owner comes back while the car is being dealt with, he's a lot less likely to kick off if it's old bill who's dealing with it.
