Hi all,

I think I may been over the speed limit going through an old Gatso red light camera at the bottom of Leamington town forgetting it was there. I didn’t notice a flash. Has any one been caught doing this or does it only record speed going through red?

Thanks

Matt

Most (if not all) red light cameras are "speed on green", i.e. dual-purpose.

On red they catch vehicles crossing the line, and speeding at all other times.

Sorry!

The old gatso there isn't speed on green.

It's also not been active for about 6 years even for red lights. they have more housings than cameras so not all housings have a camera in them.

Thank you and thank you again The Rookie. I’ve just checked the stats for it online and no average speed has been recorded for it but some of the others in Warwickshire have. My stomach sank when I remembered it was there. I’ve been really watching my speed everywhere I go after I got caught just before lockdown on the motorway but I got a bit impatient with a dithering driver and put my foot down at 6:30 this morning. Stupid impulse but a lesson learnt!

Just out of interest The Rookie, how do you know it hasn’t been active for the past 6 years? I got done going through a red light on Dale Street in 2018 but the speed recorded was 0mph but that is probably because I stopped due to an oncoming vehicle. It was the same grey Gatso 36 type camera.

Thanks

Living close you hear of who gets caught were, dale street and Kenilworth road snag a few. Tachbrook road I've not heard of any for years. Unless they get enough/week its not worth the hassle of servicing it I guess.

When in red light mode the cameras don't report speed, so it's always shown as 0 mph, if at all.

The Rookie, I see that is true. Have Dale Street/Kenilworth caught any for speeding or just red light?

666 I thought they were doubled up no? Or is that the later models?

I’ve attached the stats pdf I was on about but it only goes up to 2017.

Thanks

The cameras do 'report' speed, the information isn't added to the NIP, that's not the same thing.

However that isn't a speed on green camera.

I’ve been having a look into this and I think the speed on green are mostly in Liverpool as a major crackdown project introduced a few years ago and they are painted yellow, particularly Aigburth Road and Leeds Street. I can’t find any info of speed on green cameras in Warwickshire apart from the Kenilworth Road camera which is reported as a speed camera on speedcamerauk.com.

There are speed on green in lots of places, not just Liverpool. Any site using (clue in the name) Redspeed camera will be speed on green.

The older Gatso are not usable for that.

I see. I forgot about London as well of all places. Those little yellow boxes at junctions look deadly. I’ve always driven like a robot through London. Horrible place.

That's a rather sweeping generalisation. Rather like saying all Midlanders have a chip on their shoulder.

I presume the OP meant the roads/driving (which is correct) and not the people.

Yep, exactly that Jlc! No mention of people in my reply so it’s not a sweeping generalisation before you pull the race card as well as the scaremongering 666...
