Wondering what your thoughts are on this one...a person know has got a parking ticket. It is a parking charge notice from a company called Smart Parking Ltd. They were only in the car park from 1725 to 1743. They have a blue badge and pulled into the disabled space right next to the ticket machine. They say that they tried three times to put the money in and put the number plate in but the machine wasn't working. Apparently a young chap tried after and it wouldn't work for him either. They were in a rush (and disabled!) so went into B&M, which is attached to the car park, and informed them that the machine wasn't working. They said not to worry about it so they left. The ticket has been sent to our family business as it is a fleet vehicle that they were driving due to their car being worked on. There is a photo of the number plate going in and again leaving but was dark so can't see who is driving.
Is it worth contesting this fine given the above information or would you just ignore is as it is a private company and no proof of who was actually driving it? They want them to pay £60 which rises to £100 if not paid in the time. I think we've actually gone over the time as we were shut over Christmas and New Year and didn't get the letter until after that! I should add they are livid, say they are not paying it and want me to contest it for them as they can't use a computer! Just wondering if it is worth my time and effort or should I just tell them to suck it up and pay? This post has been edited by AntLW2: Thu, 13 Jan 2022 - 23:17 |

Thank you so much for your help. I have responded online today. When it asked for personal details I put the company name in rather than my own name so we will see what happens next. I'll keep you posted!

As a warning, if they take a company to court, they choose the venue not the defendant.
