Turning Left Across Bus Lane, PCN Contested Because Too Dangerous to turn left without warning Options

Just received a PCN for "being in a bus lane" in Croydon when I was just turning left across the bus lane into a car park. Done it loads of times before.

I have made an informal representation and will take it to appeal if necessary.

I think this is just a money spinner for Croydon to catch out people going into the cheaper car park at Whitgift Centre.

This is just like the Lambeth camera car on Salters Hill catching out motorists who cannot see oncoming cars round a corner when waiting at "Give Way" lines.

Any advice?

I’m guessing you did more than just turn across othe bus lane, how long did you drive along it for?

Thanks for your comment / reply. I was in the bus lane for maybe a few seconds just so I could turn left without causing cars behind to have to brake suddenly. No advantage was gained by me in terms of undertaking other traffic.

This happened just before Christmas and people were rushing about (including the car behind me) so I tried to make sure he understood that I was turning left in plenty of time. Also the bus lane marking ends abruptly with no arrow or space allowed for left turns into this car park.

I have used this car park loads of times and when traffic is light it is easy to check behind and turn at the last moment but on this occasion there was a bus stop repair van in front of the bus stop and buses were pulling around it therefore the bus lane was blocked by the van and it was difficult to judge when the lane would be available for my left turn across it.

3/ Your last paragraph makes no sense, if the van was after the turning it made no difference, if it was before the turning there was no point entering the bus lane until after it.
