Snip

I'm lovin that the police insist that despite the traffic order being lifted, that the no entry signs are still mandatory, and still enforcable. I drive up and down that road a few times a week as my mate stays on it and there was no reason to make it one way in the first place- its been widely ignored anyway for a long time. Now that its got no traffic order on it, I don't see why the cops are issuing tickets. I'm gonna try pick me one of these tickets up tonight smile.gif

Have you managed to pick up a ticket yet?

Heres a question for you guys. I've got an Ibiza with the *** 130TDi PD engine. Its due a wee oil change, but I'm bone idol for the next 40odd days, so I wanna do it myself.

Everything I read says get *** PD approved oil (which is about £50 for oil and then £8 for a filter). But I can't understand what would be wrong with using oil of the same grade (5W-30) which is cheaper.

I can understand that buying 5L of Asda oil (£20) will not be as good as buying, say 5L of Castorol Magnatec (£30.99). But is it really necessary to buy Castorel Edge at £47 a pop?

I can appreciate quality diffrences, and don't expect the same performance by getting cheaper stuff. But it seems a bit gimmicky having to have VW approved oil. Any non PD engine and I wouldn't think twice about using a lower grade of oil. Christ in my 106 I used stuff that cost £1.50 a litre.

Any reccomendations on cheap!!! oil which is suitable would go down a treat. £130 for an oil service at the garage is something I'd prefer to avoid at the moment!

This thread has alot of information but as you have time to spare maybe worth the read.

This guy had the same question reference oil for his PD engine and found a cheaper option.

Are you sure it is 5W-30 and not 5W-40 you should be after?
