Hi, I'm a naturally worrier about breaking the Law. So normally I make sure everything is by the book.

When COVID struck I had 2 cars. So one car I cancelled insurance and took off-road (private land) and not looked at it since.

Not driven it or anything. Not even seen it for 2 months (like a donut didn't even leave car keys so my mate whose land it is could turn it over).

Anyway, Monday, no idea why it took so long, I suddenly realised I'd not SORN it (did so straight away).

My worry is could I still be done for not having insurance?

Yes, my understanding is you must have insurance OR SORN.
I would declare SORN ASAP....

There are (as far as is relevant) 2 separate offences you can commit by not having insurance - using a motor vehicle without insurance (driving, or it being parked on the road) - which is a big fine and 6 points, and being the keeper of a vehicle which is not insured - which is a much smaller fine and no points.

Some people think that I make them feel stupid. To be fair, they deserve most of the credit.

I assume they base it on if they catch you driving it you get the former and if they don't catch you you get latter? Now it is SORN do you think they will come after me?

Please, don't anyone think I in any way was thinking or planning to drive it uninsured. I wet myself if I hit a 32 in a 30mph zone. I've been petrified all week about this.

TBH, now thinking of scrapping the car. It only saved me £50 a month and isn't worth the hassle.

Never assume. They could do both!

I was going by there post. So someone who hasn't driven an uninsured car could get 6 points?

If they permitted someone else to drive it, yes. Or left it uninsured on a road or public place, which counts as “use”.
