I bought a 2015 Mazda CX-5 last week from a main dealer, very nice it is too.

The Auto Trader ad has it as having a DAB radio in the spec, looking at some links like this one it seems there should be a DAB radio on some of the lower spec models - I have the top end Sport Nav AWD variant, & since collecting it, it does not have a DAB radio.

It seems straightforward to me that I should ask them to put this right & fit one, but is there any way they can wriggle out of it?

I'm not naming them, but they are a very big, long established dealer. I'm dropping it back to them tomorrow for an unrelated minor matter to be sorted.

Cheers

Do you have a copy of the spec?

Simple thing is to phone them first, online specs aren't relevant to YOUR purchase but how it was advertised is, so if the advert listed DAB then it should have it, the fact its probably a 'menu listing' from autotrader isn't relevant as it's THEIR responsibility to make sure it's correct.

Whether it is viable to retrofit I don't know, with modern cars that could be very expensive (simply not worth it especially at dealer costs - a new head unit, possibly a new antennae, wiring, amplifier etc could well be over £1K before you even think of fitting it - although one possibility is that its had an incorrect software upgrade which deleted it, so a dealer should then be able to option it back in.) so its worth deciding in advance of calling them whether
1/ DAB is a must in which case you may well be into discussing rejecting the car
2/ Or a nice to have in which case how much was it worth to you and how much would you accept as compensation for not having it. (and whether you could source pre-owned parts and convert for that price......)

2015 MY cars certainly should have DAB!

I suspect the model I have is pre that facelift as it was registered in March '15 & doesn't have any of the other facelift toys mentioned there, to name a few, USB ports, ALH, LAS, DAL, Radar cruise control, Stone leather seats...

I suspect this Mazda news relates as I have one of the blue colours mentioned.

In which case its back to my previous advice! Decide what you will accept before calling.

I'm sure this will have been sorted by now, but Autotrader pulls data through from CAP, so dealers don't put the data in by themselves.

Did you see the car on the dealers own website at any time and notice if it was mentioned there?

I'm sure they will want to put it right- would you accept a DAB adapter or similar?

Indeed, but it’s still the sellers advert and they’re responsible for making sure the contents are correct.

Very, very true. But its easier to argue with the dealer if it was on their own site as well as on AT. On their own means they can't try to fob a wronged customer off by claiming 'oh thats not our fault it was AutoTrader' (even though it is their fault for not checking- some dealers will say anything to get rid of a customer).

I overheard a conversation between a few service desk chaps the other day along similar lines - customer bought used car and had problems with lights so returned for warranty repair. The system says the car doesn't have those lights so warranty computer says no. It was a £300 repair bill so they were looking for proof that the car was initially sold in the spec on the computer or that the spec change was done after initial sale so not a warranty repair, it was obvious that the customer hadn't added the lights himself as they had clearly been on the vehicle a long time. They were searching sales listing to see if they could find an advert listing the lights as part of the spec.
