Hi - never expected to be posting somewhere like here but, here we go....

Pretty sure i got caught by a speed van yesterday....i really wasnt looking at my speed but, when i got back to the office i checked google maps (street view) to see 20mph signs...(the A472 in Bristol) one of those roads (big, wide main road) where i could see 20mph signs but, its a long road and speed limits change all the time (going to go back up there tomorrow) to take a closer look. I was on a motorbike so im assuming the camera at the front will get me.

First initial question is, assuming its a 20 whats the limit for a ban, is it 30mph over the limit (i was definately doing over 30), or is it double the speed limit in force? - i already have 6 points.

Cheers.

For a 20 limit...
Upto 24, no action
24-31 a speed awareness course would be offered
31-40 a fixed penalty would be offered
41 and up a court case where a ban would be considered, or 6 points which would lead you to a totting ban.

Thanks very much...that clarifies it.

Just have to wait and see - i did ride up there early this morning to look at the signage...which is in all fairness everywhere....

That should be Fixed penalty 31 to 35 and court above 35,

See NPCC FOI response affirming ACPO guidelines, and ACPO guidelines

The OP should also be aware that magistrates have guidance not to impose disqualification when giving penalty points would result in totting, ie instead of getting a short disqualification he is liable to get 6 points and therefore become a totter.

Just out of curiosity - whats the deal with the old argument about "officers" having to man the camera van to "execute the law" - is that out the window? (currently clutching at straws)

I don’t recall it ever being an argument, at least not a valid one.

The 14-day rule applies only to the first NIP, which is sent to the registered keeper. Are you the RK? I.e. do you have the V5C in your namw, and in your possession?

Assuming you are the RK, and the car isn't a leased/company car, and that the address on your logbook is correct (and hasn't been changed recently), that would make it day 14 today, which is promising.
