Does anyone know if the Redspeed fixed cameras are approved by the home office for taking front photos in the UK yet?

Then do have approval for an additional head unit that take an image forward facing but I do not believe it uses a flash Pete D

I read that they had a unit that could take front facing photos but it says in the company literature (overseas only). Does this mean that they are not yet online. Has anyone had any experience with these cameras in real life. Does anyone know if the front cameras are operational yet? If so where? Also if there is no front flash can they work at night? Would aperchiate any info. Thanks guys.

Well the image on the redspeed site is in London and shows camers facing in both directions. Truvelo camera's, same principle are approved for front facing flash so I am not sure if that approval would cover the Redspeed kit. Pete D

how would i find out ? the redspeed site mentions this but the home office documents don't mention the front facing photo only approval for the cameras. Should I take the lack of questions in this vein on this fourum and the internet in general as evidence of no front photos beig taken from this unit. I suspect that someone would have the same question as me

The TA documents linked to make no specific comment (when are they ever really specific?) about detecting both approaching and receding traffic but according to the ACPO RPET manual (latest edition available on ACPO site - see here) they are approved for receding traffic only:

"Operated on up to two lanes with 3 piezo sensors and two inductive loops in each lane. Operated on receding traffic only. Three rear images, one close up and two wide angle taken. Control and recording at site only."

Aren't these supposed to transmit the digital images off site?
