We are all under government orders to:

Stay at home
Only go outside for food, health reasons or essential work

Posting a reply to a s172 request was not mentioned and annoyingly, the SI is not online yet. So, do you ignore the letter? Or walk to the post box and in so doing risk committing some other offence?

I went to Morrisons yesterday and (apart from empty shelves and the rationing of some items) you can buy whatever they sell, including stamps.

On the other hand, some people might consider "not going insane" to be a "necessity".

Leaving the house *at all* might not be a strict necessity, if you have food for 2/3 weeks and can get an online good delivery after that.

Good luck with that, it was already a two-week delay for online delivery before the "lockdown" was even announced around here!

Tesco were we are is up to a month now, i'm pretty sure some people are pre-booking, so having 3-4 deliveries scheduled in that time.

My wife went to our local Tesco superstore this morning at 0900. No queues, everyone distancing themselves and plenty on the shelves.

Deliveries are impossible so we had to go ourselves.
We now have enough for a week with no hassle at all.
We live at the eastern end of the M20.
We went for a walk and everyone was careful about distancing - no problems at all.
Mind you the good weather does help too, makes you feel better about things.

Some sense returning do you think ?

I'd seen that already and I am yet to fathom how going for a drive has anything to do with that.

Supermarkets are full because people ran out of things to buy.
There is nothing wrong with getting fresh air, in fact it is encouraged.

I just think it is people accepting that this will be over soon and to take it easy, I guess almost like a holiday.

Obviously not. In common with many other people who can't seem to grasp the difference between "should I do this?" and "am I legally prohibited from doing this?".

The use of the word 'aimlessly ' is such a self-centered opinion.

I meant it in the sense that you had no destination or urgent need to do it. We're not in a place where "it makes me feel good" makes something a necessity.

Leaving the house *at all* might not be a strict necessity, if you have food for 2/3 weeks and can get an online good delivery after that. On the other hand, some people might consider "not going insane" to be a "necessity".

Good luck with online ordering & food delivery. Just out of interest I looked at all the major supermarket websites a couple of days ago. With some like Waitrose & Ocado you couldn't even register an account. With others like Tesco & Sainsbury there were no delivery slots within the next 3 weeks which was as far out as you could book a delivery.

I think your work on pepipoo has trained you well for the present situation. When this is all finished you need to get out more.

Not to the person taking the video, to be sure. Instead of making me feel seasick by panning to and for, how about holding the bloody camera the right way round in the first place, so we can see everything in shot, rather than 90% grass and sky? Vertical videos should be banned.

You see something happening and grab a phone out of your pocket in a hurry, unlock, select the right screen, select camera, select video and start filming, no you don't have time to worry which way round it is do you?

If I get in my car and go for a drive round East Anglia's country lanes and then go back home, the risk of infection to me and to others is precisely zero. The risk is infinitely higher if I go for a run.

So aimlessly driving around in your sealed box is fine, as long as that doesn't involve stopping to buy snacks/fuel/wander about/have a pee.

I'd got the impression you were disagreeing with me, but apparently not. smile.gif

Posting a reply to a s172 request was not mentioned and annoyingly, the SI is not online yet. So, do you ignore the letter? Or walk to the post box and in so doing risk committing some other offence?

According to the Regulations now posted quite properly in another thread (albeit inexplicably in the Flame Pit) by you, one of the specified (and non-exhaustive) lawful 'reasonable excuses' is to fulfil a legal obligation (Reg 6(2)(h))

By all means feel free to ask Fredd to move that thread to government policy. Also feel free to ask him to close this thread, as the regulations now answer the question.

As this is the Flame Pit, I fully expect to be censured for posting a reply which is 'on topic' to the OP.
