Worried I've been caught speeding badly. Coming on the M62 (i think) into Liverpool, Speed changes from 70 to 50 with a speed camera just after which I didn't notice. My satnav is buzzing me so I've noticed the speed has changed and attempted to brake probably on the lines after the speed camera. No intention to speed, just concentrating to much and didn't notice the speed change. Didn't notice the camera flash either (I was half looking, no other cars nearby).

Ultimately, on a scale of 1 to absolutely screwed, what will happen presuming I've been A, caught, and B, I'm doing worse case which was 70. I accept I was speeding (if not intentionally) so will plead guilty in the hope of a less fine.

I'm still in my 2 year new license (I'm about 21 months)

For 70 in a 50 it would be a fixed penalty of £100 and 3 points. Accepting that isn't strictly pleading guilty.

Did the speed change as you went under the gantry or had it changed far earlier and you just hadn't noticed?

Assuming you've been caught, expect a Notice of Intended Prosecution asking for the drivings details within 14 days of the offence if your the registered keeper. Assuming you have no points on your licence, you should get a Fixed Penalty Notice for 3 points and a £100 fine.

Never driven down the road before so not sure. On checking google maps, It's a good 5-10 seconds before the camera where the speed changed, I didn't notice.

There is a slip road at the side which has three markers advising the speed is changing, but that's showing on the slip road rather than the motorway I'm on.

No points on my license currently. The fact I'm still in my new driver probationary period make no difference? All the "speeding fine calculators" are saying expect 4-6 points (6 points would mean a ban) and a decent sized fine.

Those numbers are only relevant at court. As previously stated, for that speed you will be offered a Fixed Penalty of £100 & 3 points. Return this within the stated 28 days, along with payment AND your licence and you will be okay.

Usually there's a leniency window for HADEC 3 cameras for when the limit changes. There's been cases where it can be up to a minute but different forces vary so you may not even have a issue here.

What your referring to is if the issue went to court such as if you wanted to challenge it. A fixed penalty is fixed at £100 + 3 points.

The relevant traffic order will likely state 10 seconds grace before enforcing a reducing limit. The actual grace period is longer than that - anything up to 1 minute indeed.

Talk of HADECS and gantries is mistaken, the 50 MPH limit change at the end of the M62 is a fixed limit change indicated by normal terminal signs with warning of the limit change starting at 300 yards before the change. Limit change here:

No real excuse for not slowing down in time.

No it wouldn't, it would mean your licence would be revoked, as soon as you applied for and received a new provisional you would be free to drive again (with suitable accompaniment obviously). Revocation and disqualification are very different.
