Hi, i got a NIP letter this morning.

i failed to comply with red traffic light signal.

i went onto the police website to see the photos the camera took and it also says:

Yellow time in seconds before red phase (3 seconds)
Red time in seconds as vehicles has passed sensors after stop line (01.1 seconds).

From what i can remember on the night, the traffic light was on amber and i decided to rush through the traffic light albeit it turned red at the end.

seeing as i was in the yellow time for much longer than red, is there enough merit for my to contest this assuming they say i have to pay penalty fee and take 3 points?

Assuming you are serious and not having a laugh biggrin.gif , you have no defence.

Especially as it is also an offence to go through an amber light (albeit there is a statutory defence).

You were 1 second into the red. Take the CoFP.

No, the time into red was 1.1 seconds. Amber was illuminated for 3 seconds (which meets the requirement) - actually, you jumped the lights by 4.1 seconds as amber means stop too.

However, ask for the photo to assist in identifying the driver - if they supply it (they don't have to) it will show the red light and you crossing the stop line (trust me).

Take the CoFP.

...or possibly a course if they offer it.

If you want to see a photo you have to ask before nominating the driver. The 28 day clock doesn't stop though.

But this will only be for you to convince yourself you actually passed at red rather than amber... RLC's are extremely reliable and are triggered by buried sensors which only activate a short time after red is shown.

It's worth adding that even if you had passed on amber, you'd still be guilty.

But only potentially if a PC saw you. RLC's don't trigger on amber.

(And subject to the statutory defence that if one was close to the stop line and could not stop safely in time before red is illuminated)

Forget about asking for photos, he's already seen them on-line.

The reason why they record the amber time is that the timing must be 3 seconds +/- 0.25 seconds. If it was shorter then there would be a potential defence.

They also only enforce red lights after it has been shown for one second, although this is grace rather than a requirement. You were 0.1 seconds unlucky.
